My Students

Help! There are 25 students in our class and we ALL share one computer that works...usually...We need technology!

My students come from a low-socioeconomic, predominantly Latino neighborhood in southern California.

Many students come from one-parent households, or homes where both parents are working. Like all Americans, our families face financial challenges worsened by a weakened economy. Many of our students have recently arrived to this country and most speak primarily Spanish, so the children are struggling to meet CA academic content standards while also trying to master a new language.

My Project

We will cruise the California landscape via virtual reality! I will create a slide-show archiving California history relevant to geography, sociology and political science. Students will choose images, icons, etc to create a multimedia mural, inspired by Diego Rivera's Allegory of California. This project meets multiple 4th grade CA academic content standards in social studies, language arts and visual arts.

Having a laptop available for this project will really facilitate my students' exposure to California icons; it will also support future lessons as well as encourage students to engage in research-based projects.
