This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach first grade at a Title I school in Alabama. First graders are an awesome group to teach! They come to school very excited to learn! My first graders especially love math time. During first grade, students are taught a variety of skills which can be taught through the use of the Calendar. We would love to have a class set of Lakeshore Calendar Math Journals. These Journals would not only reinforce Calendar Skills, they would reinforce basic math skills.
My Project
Each Lakeshore Calendar Math Journal contains 174 pages. The journals give the students their own space to reinforce calendar concepts and to practice their math skills.
The Calendar Math Journals contain skill-building activities for every day of the school year!
The Calendar Math Journals also feature daily calendar questions and challenging math problems for my first graders. There are also blank calendar pages and graphs so the students can chart the weather each day. My students would use these journals shortly after they arrive at school each day. They have a few minutes of independent work each morning while I am taking the lunch count. These Journals would be a perfect way to start a first grade day.
