My Project

These calculators would enable students to do many projects with graphing that involve finding slopes, intercepts, and recognizing movements and transformations. These are things that we don't usually have time for because the focus has to be on creating all graphs by hand instead of actually analyzing the graphs.

These calculators will enrich my classroom curriculum by allowing the students access the analytical standards instead of spending all of our time on the procedural standards.

This will allow students to analyze parts of graphs and their meaning and be able to obtain an accurate visual of what is expected of them to be able to accomplish in the State Standardize Testing. Students will be able to reflect on the data behind the graphs and the connections between the data and the slope, intercepts, minimums and maximums, etc.

What is the timeline (start, end, will it continue beyond the grant period)? What are post-project plans for non-consumable purchased goods? If I can gather a class set of these 24 calculators this will allow multiple Resource classes to work more efficiently on assignments and prepare for State Testing, then my roughly 75 students per year could use them and benefit from them. Our math department did research and selected these calculators together, and some of the other teachers have purchased them. This means our department would also have consistency as students move up through our classes.

We will see success when we are able to cover more standards in a school year than in the last two school years, when students are able to make connections between graphs and data, and when students are able to already be proficient in using the functions of these calculators when they get to their next math class.
