My Students

I teach math to a group of amazing 6th grade students. I am a Special Education Teacher and teach three 6th grade Integrated Co- Teaching classes my wonderful co-teachers! My students have all been professional to the constant change of learning during the school year! I am extremely proud of their hard work and willingness to learn. My students work very hard to learn math concepts without using a calculator, however, having the extra support of using the calculators to check their work allows them to feel more comfortable in a subject that can sometimes become very tedious and confusing. Middle School Math is challenging and I am looking for a way to allow my students access to supports that could make their math experience much more enjoyable.

My Project

Calculators can be a great support to students learning math. In Middle School, the mathematics concepts can become increasingly more difficult. Understanding and knowing basic math skills is essential, however, a calculator can make the new math concepts seem less overwhelming, and can guide a student through all of the steps needed to complete a problem. Using a calculator is a support and a good way for students to double check their work. I am hoping that by receiving these calculators, I can make it more accessible for my students to have another support they need in math class.
