My Students

The majority of the students at NMB come from low income families or single parent families. 92% of the students are with Haitian origin background. NMB is a TITLE I school.

Many students have limited access to internet services at home as well as computer input devices including keyboards, mice, scanners, digital cameras and printers.

My students are enrolled in Gifted Chemistry or Advanced Honors Chemistry classes. One of the goals of Miami-Dade County Schools this year is for students to be involved in Digital fluency and to excel in Science Research. This research will help them to explore, discover, and experiment important STEAM concepts.

Most of the students have a strong motivation to participate in science research competitions but they lack the confidence to apply to them due to insufficient access to digital technology.

My Project

Calculate Today for Your Success in the Future seeks to secure calculators that the students can utilize when working on various class and lab activities or different STEAM projects.

My Chemistry lessons require students to regularly actively engage in inquiry work where they are reading, questioning, analyzing data, and creating models using calculators.

Adding this tool will significantly expand my students' ability to improve their math skills when designing models and presenting them to peers. Project-based learning is our way of work. The technology resources available to our students, with predominately Haitian decent, has not kept up with continuing technological advances.

My students will become engaged builders of a new knowledge base and become lifelong learners that are proud of the work they produce.
