Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

One of the issues with which my students must contend is a lack of technological resources. When we are doing experiment I always see students counting on their fingers, or filling the margins of their papers with calculations. We need calculators to help do our data gathering and analysis.

My school is a relatively new small school in part of the poorest Congressional District in the country.

Needless to say, the students in my school have faced many challenges that go along with being a member of a traditionally underprivileged group. Many of my students strive to succeed even in the face of these overwhelming challenges. My school does not have the financial resources of suburban schools, and due to recent budget cuts resources are even tighter. Even so, I firmly believe that my kids deserve the same education as other children. I am asking you to please donate whatever you can to help me give my students the education they deserve.

My Project

No more counting on fingers! No more making simple math errors! Science is about conducting the experiment, evaluating your hypothesis, and doing research. It's not about taking fifteen minutes to find averages or standard deviation. Unfortunately, our school is facing budget cutback and luxuries like calculators are the first to go. I want my students to enjoy the experiment, to explore the possibilities, to use their hands and touch the materials, not to worry about mathematical errors.

Having calculators will free my math phobic students to embrace science.

To enjoy the moment, enjoy the experiment and not to stress so much about finding the right answer. Calculators free their minds to focus on the science of the experiment and to fully engage with the material.
