I teach at risk students at an alternative high school. I am in desperate need of seven (7) TI-83 Plus graphing calculators for students to use.
Objective: To help Algebra 1 students visualize and better understand concepts being taught through hands-on applications.
The purpose of my request is to obtain seven TI-83 Plus graphing calculators which will allow my students to acquire the skills they need in order to perform better in Algebra, and also allow me to visually show students concepts as they read and discuss the text. This process will help clarify both procedures and the concepts learned through the use of hands-on application. The graphing calculators will challenge students to work out mathematical problems by visualizing them. When students can see expressions, formulas, and graphs on a screen; they are then better able to explore concepts and make connections that lead to a deeper understanding. The calculators requested would especially allow me to differentiate my instructional techniques and enable me to reach those students who learn and understand better when they are actively engaged in the lessons.
These TI-83 Plus graphing calculators will be used on a daily basis to enhance every lesson. Using these calculators will enable me to help students focus on their own thought processes as they actively question and apply strategies to improve comprehension.
