My Students

Ray Charles said "Music to me is like breathing-I don't get tired of breathing, I don't get tired of music.

My students are hard workers and never give up!

Practice makes better, not perfect.

My students have enjoyed learning about rhythms, playing different instruments, and learning how to identify different rhythm patterns during music class. The classroom cajon would be the perfect addition because I know my students are willing and would love to learn how to play this instrument in order to build their skills as musicians.

Kindergarten, first and second-grade students will get the opportunity to work as a group to compose their own rhythms and even work on literacy, writing poems.

My Project

With the purchase of a classroom cajon, a Latin American percussion instrument, and simple time silicone manipulatives students will get the opportunity to play in the classroom comfortably, with up to eight students playing at a time. This will help students understand basic rhythms, identify different note values, illustrate a steady beat, as well as build self-esteem because they will be performing while enjoying music class. As they progress, they will be able to do team and independent work to build musicianship and to be able to practice socialization, while working and composing with other students. Purchasing a classroom cajon will enhance the environment not only in the classroom, but on the concert stage as well. With this purchase, students will also get a chance to play and learn about instruments from different cultures.

Having this classroom cajon, along with the silicone manipulatives, will not only benefit students in the general education population but the students in the adaptive class.

These students have a variety of disabilities and this instrument will allow them to have their own space and still be able to work as a team.
