Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm a special education teacher working in a Title 1 School in an area called "Wynwood". This is a low-income area where the majority of my students are underprivileged. My school currently services approximately 8 shelters that vary from homeless to drug rehabilitation centers.

Every day, I come to work realizing that technology will move education farther and faster than ever before.

My students don't have the privilege of coming to school with technological devices of their own. Although my students face many personal challenges on a daily, I would love to help them access technology in every way possible. With the use of technology, they will be able to embark on a new journey involving Project-Based Learning, STEM, and Near-pod to further access their education. I would really like for my students to explore the innovations of the 21st century through the use of technology.

My Project

Through experience with some recently purchased buzzers I have noticed the enthusiasm that my students have to answer questions in class. As of now, we only have a set of (4) buzzers for four different groups. Students love pressing the buzzers to hear the sounds. It encourages them to participate in class and respond to teacher led questions. We use them during instructional time, and to recall practice questions for future tests/ exams. It is a great tool to encourage student participation!They simply just want to buzz away!

Learning should always promote collaboration, participation, and fun!

These buzzers will benefit my students by allowing them to each have their own buzzer, and openly communicate with myself and their peers. It makes them feel like if they are in a game show but at the same time learning the content!
