Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a low-income demographic where they are susceptible to gangs and violence. Whether they have to work to support their parents or babysit their siblings when they get home, my students come to school no matter the difficulties they face.

My indefatigable students put in the effort to learn every day and they do it to make sure they can create a better life for themselves and their families.

My students are resilient and work hard to not only help build a positive relationship within the school, but also in the community as well.

My Project

It's hard to get parents in after school to discuss their students learning needs. Parents are generally tired after work and tend to skip out on the meetings. This directly affects the students because these meetings determine the students accommodations in the classroom and helps with the lesson planning. Having a Keurig coffee machine with coffee will help lure parents into the meeting by having coffee offered to them after school. This in turn will lead to more support for students with learning disabilities and provide more insight on what makes them successful within the class.

As the Special Education Lead, I try to have parents come in after school to go over specific learning plans to help pave the way for success in their students learning.

By offering them something to keep them going for that extra hour, we can plan together to help provide the best education and supports for their kids.
