Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When you are one of our students, you are part of the family. Our school has a tradition of pride and excellence as well as a tight-knit community. Our students love to participate in learning opportunities of all kinds--especially reading experiences that deepen their knowledge and connect them with others, their community, and with history. Our students are in two categories: voracious readers or future voracious readers. Our reading community efforts are literacy-centered, service-centered, or designed to enrich course work such as reading sets of books in a group so they can enjoy these books together.

My Project

Our Seniors study the US Juvenile Justice System in their English classes. Now that we are 100% online, students cannot share books and will need their own copies to read at home. Last year, we had an incredible experience in person with our students. This project will enable us to maintain this powerful unit, whether we will be in person or online. We need help getting this books with the objective of these young adults understanding social justice and the systems that are already in place. We hope they will be inspired through this powerful book and through this unit, to be active community members and citizens in their local and national governments.
