Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach all subjects at a title one school. I will be teaching Advanced Work 4th grade next year which requires me to challenge and inspire students to reach higher and keep soaring with their academic achievements. Our school promotes teaching inspired by all the arts including song, dance, drama, and poetry.

I have a wonderful open mic poetry program called the Butterfly Dreams Cafe in which students are invited not only to write and read poetry but to perform poetry in a safe and supportive manner. We need supplies to keep the young writers motivated and willing to work together for brainstorming and performing purposes. My students love Thursdays because we dedicate most of the morning to poetry which also increases their fluency, their love of literature, and creative writing. Its a wonderful tradition that needs to continue with your help.

The resources needed for this project are binders for each student which will be a portfolio of poetry for each student to keep at the end of the year. We need sticky note chart paper for group activities or for students to use as visuals for their poetry performances. The gel markers are fun and special requests just for this project that the kids will love using. I am requesting the table top pocket charts for students to use to brainstorm and sort ideas as they work with their team mates on new poetry ideas. I also need more dry erase markers for students to use to write compliments on dry erase boards that we use to celebrate our young poets.

Your help will ensure that my students have an opportunity to truly experience poetry in three different ways. To read it, to write it, and to perform it. Your donation is greatly appreciated.
