This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the pleasure of working with outstanding children.

They come to school prepared to learn and try their best every day. I teach in a Title I school with a high population of non-native English speakers. Our school is located in a low-income area, with most students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. I focus on the potential and growth of the children in my room. That growth is measured in student joy and love for learning and their engagement in classroom activities!

My Project

"Seeing is believing," and metamorphosis is hard to imagine without visual experience. I have observed that when students themselves become the scientists, they can "see and believe." Life science requires a hands-on approach with active participation in observation as well as verbal and written dialog.

Students will have the opportunity to learn compassion as well as understanding as they observe metamorphosis with larva and record findings.

They will watch the life cycle as their chrysalis are transferred to the butterfly sanctuary and eventually release their butterfly. A butterfly emerges so silently and quickly that when you have only one container it is easy to miss. Having multiple kits will help students witness the amazing transformation taking place and learn the care and needs of butterflies.

I want to bring the butterfly life cycle to life for them within our classroom! This will help them understand and apply this concept to other animals that go through metamorphoses such as frogs, worms, and ladybugs.
