Butterflies: Nature In The Classroom

My students need a variety of butterfly materials, including models, more larvae, assorted books, a felt set, a life cycle kit and posters.

Help Mrs. Robb

We are first grade entomologists in a high-needs, urban school with over 50% English Language Learners. At least 1/3 of our students live in apartments with little access to the natural world.

The students in my class have few opportunities to observe nature hands-on living in a urban setting. We cannot afford many field trips to observe animals or insects first hand. Our district provides few resources to help enrich our insect study units.

We need a way to get up-close and personal with the butterflies we study. The district provides 5-8 butterflies for a class of 30 students; we would learn more if we had at least 15 to really get "up-close" to study. We also need posters, pictures, big books, student books, and models to help us truly understand and "see" butterflies.

You will make it possible for my students to immerse themselves in the study of butterflies in a way they never have before. As we understand the important role butterflies play in nature, we expand our understanding of a world larger than ourselves. Thank you for your support!
