Butterflies in Bed-Stuy

Help me give my students a butterfly nursery to help them visualize the life cycle of a butterfly. They will watch caterpillars, spin silk and form chrysalises then as butterflies. They will release the butterflies in a garden.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Butterfly gardening is a way to create, improve and maintain habitat for butterflies. The students will create a relationship with their environment and their sensitivity to these changes in the garden. The students will observe the four stages of the life cycle of the butterflies. The students will interact with the environment and learn from the process.

The butterfly will be released into a neighborhood garden.

The students will incorporate the butterflies into their community. The students will also learn which plants are required for the butterfly at the end of their life cycle. The scholars will create written assignments such as poetry, descriptive writing, etc.
