My Students

If you've had the experience of watching a cocoon turn into a butterfly, you know it is something special. I want my students to have this kind of amazing experience.

I teach science to two classes of highly capable elementary students.

I would like to teach life science through a hands-on unit raising, researching and designing experiments using real insects (butterflies, ladybugs and crickets) and amphibians (newts and frogs).

My Project

My students need insects and amphibians magnifiers and books, so they can study life science. I am requesting a variety of different insects and amphibians that can raised in my classroom along with all the necessary supplies to raise them. The hand magnifiers and zoom scope will be used to closely observe the life cycle progress. Students will not only nurture and care for the creatures, but they will also create life cycle diagrams, conduct their own research using the requested materials and finally design experiments to test behavior.

If we want this generation of children to value and protect our environment, we must give them hands-on experiences where they can experience their amazing world and learn to value nature.
