My Project

Last school year, our class was blessed to receive science materials like bird feeders and plants to add to our outdoor space. Right outside the windows, my students were able to see the changes to our natural environment in real-time every day throughout the seasons. They were able to see the life cycles of native birds and plants, discover and share a variety of bugs with each other, learn that all birdfeeders are not created equal when it comes to squirrels, and saw "our" hawk successfully hunt a few of those same squirrels.

I would love to continue to expand lessons and interactions outside the walls of our classroom.

The new items - like two bird feeders that MAY deter the squirrels and more seeds to grow plants that will attract pollinators - will continue to provide my students with even more engagement with nature. The requested books correlate with nature and SOL activities and will be available for students to read throughout the year. My hope is to not only pique my students' curiosity about nature but to instill an appreciation for and an understanding of their responsibility in caring for the natural world that surrounds us.
