My Students

Our school is for students with special needs who, because of severe emotional and behavioral issues, have not been able to learn successfully at their regular schools. They learn a little bit differently, are a little more difficult to engage due to their tremendous emotional needs and we work hard to be able to accommodate their differences, correct their behaviors with gentle guidance and keep them in school and in class!

Our school provides a safe place where students can make mistakes, learn coping skills and master problem-solving strategies while continuing to be exposed to the district-wide academic curriculum.

Instead of being suspended or removed from the learning environment for extended parts of the day - which is what was happening in their regular schools- our daily goal is to keep students in the learning environment where they can get their academic needs met. The ultimate goal is to give them the coping strategies they need to be able to be successful back at their home schools. In the meantime, we strive to give them the kind of high-quality lessons and activities that will authentically engage them in rigorous learning.

My Project

We really want to expand our knowledge about bees and butterflies! We are requesting books and field guides about bees, butterflies, and other insects, a bee life cycle learning kit, butterfly habitats for 8 classrooms and seeds to plant bee and butterfly attracting flowers!

We love butterflies and we are worried about our Earth's honeybees!

These books will help us learn about why honeybees are so important and what we can do to help. We are excited about the idea of planting flowers that will attract the bees and butterflies. We plan to plant the butterfly and bee attracting flowers and have a great habitat waiting for the butterflies after they show us the incredible process of their life cycle. We are asking for enough butterfly habitats for 8 classrooms. Those students who have witnessed the miracle of these butterfly kits before are really doing a great job generating excitement for this project. We are very thankful for this opportunity to request these materials and cannot wait to get started on this project! Thank you!
