Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are beautiful and unique. They come from a variety of social emotional, speech and language and educational backgrounds. The families I work with require support and guidance in preparing their children for the world.

Kindergarten lays down the foundation for future citizens of our society.

I feel it is my duty to prepare and inspire the children to be lifelong learners regardless of their socioeconomic backgrounds.

Be it social, financial, or emotional struggles, all these young minds deserve to be educated equally with the tools essential to their growth.

Some of my students may have wonderful positive learning experiences in the world while others need to be exposed to language and learning for the first time. Parents and caregivers may not have the financial means to expose their child to the educational skills necessary for learning. It is my passion to be able to make a difference in the life of a child and make it a positive learning environment so they will be confident capable citizens in the world we live in.

My Project

The children in my class would love to have books of their own to read at home. Since we have been distance learning, the children have limited access to emergent level readers appropriate for their level.

The children say, "Mrs. Codella, I don't have any books in my home!"

This statement breaks my heart. We have many resources in school. However, many of the children do not have access to these resources at home during remote learning. Since we went remote last spring, many our books were given out and our supply is limited. In addition, due to covid restrictions, we can not give out our books and rotate the ones we do have.

My class would be thrilled to own some books of their own. My lessons would be highly effective if my students have access to these books and have them readily available.
