Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is a bright and creative group of 14 Kindergarteners. They are living the amazing adventure of becoming bilingual and biliterate and they will spend this whole school year learning 100% in Spanish.

They all come from different backgrounds but have one thing in common: they are all so excited to be learning in person again this year along with their friends.

My Project

After the hardships our students have endured over the past year, they are back in the class and ready to learn. Kindergarten is such an important year as it is the transition to First Grade and the year were children develop many different skills that will accompany them throughout their lives.

Our job as educators is creating the right learning environment and providing rich experiences for the students within the classroom.

With the materials in this project, I aspire to create engaging activities for my students to be mindful about their bodies and be conscious about their learning. At this age, the way children learn is manipulating and exploring materials that are interesting to them and using them with purpose.

Students will be using the sand for creative emerging writing, writing letters and words on it. That way they will be provided with a different range of materials other than pencil and paper to develop their writing skills. Magnatiles are great visuals for teaching the concept of a syllable, and teachers will be using them during our Reader's workshop lessons. The light panel will be used for creating engaging and hands on Math and Literacy games. And the bamboo tables will be used as a flexible seating option for our writing corner. They will also help students to keep a safe distance within them while in the center.
