My Students

The second graders in our classroom come from all over the world: México, El Salvador, Honduras, China, India, Perú, Chile, and, of course, the United States. This international bunch is here to be fully immersed in Spanish, so they are learning either their second, third or even their fourth language when they are learning math!

Now is the time to add knitting to the to our class.

These 7- and 8-year-olds are ready and so excited to start this project. We appreciate any help at all.

My Project

2nd graders are ready to knit! Finger knitting has taken off like wildfire in our classroom. Now it's time to move up a level and make our own needles and begin knitting on them. Knitting has countless benefits for children.

Knitting in school can help create a positive environment for learning.

In Room 12 we will sand and wax our dowels, then use the Sculpey Clay to "top off" our personal needles. These needles will never get lost because the students made them. After needle preparation the kiddos will learn to knit 1 on 1 with Teacher Wendy or Teacher Sheila. Once these second graders can knit with ease, they will burn through the yarn!!!
