My Students

My sweet students come from diverse backgrounds and bring a large array of experiences to our room. One thing they all have in common is using their imaginations and creating a happy world within our walls.

Daily, my students overcome a variety of basic challenges - getting breakfast, making it to school, and having homework completed.

Our school is a Title I urban school with the most diverse population in our district, serving free or reduced-price lunch to over 80% of our students. School becomes a safe haven for these scholars where expectations are the same every day, and their basic needs are met. While they come to school to learn, they thrive when they are given the opportunity to utilize a variety of resources to make learning real and fun. This is what keeps them coming back and keeps them hooked into learning the rigorous academic standards.

My Project

One of the most important parts of Kindergarten is developmental play. My students will be taking part in distance learning for the unforeseeable future and I want to set them up for success as much as possible! This bag will be used as part of their distance learning school day.

While my students are at home, this busy bag will provide opportunities for them to build their problem solving, fine motor, creativity, and imaginative skills, all while being independent learners!

The contents of the "Busy Bag" will include 20 & 60 piece puzzles & legos to help foster students' fine motor & problem solving skills. There will be play doh, play doh cookie cutters, and finger puppets to help with fine motor skills as well as working on creativity & imaginative skills. The sidewalk chalk & coloring activity books will help students with their fine motor and their creativity skills.

Lastly, the ziplock baggies will be great for organization within the "Busy Bag" and it will also be good for my students' fine motor skills to zip and unzip those bags. The mesh bags are going to be perfect because they are going to be able to hold ALL of the contents of our "Busy Bags". I am looking forward to getting these in the hands of my future kindergarteners!
