My Students

I work in a Philadelphia neighborhood high school that is comprised of a 48% latino and 47% black population. The majority of our students come from low income families; more than one fifth of the students are English learners and one third of the school receive special education services.

The mixture of cultures and backgrounds in this neighborhood provide a beautiful and unique diversity that is unmatched in the city.

It also provides challenges to engage students at their own level as they learn Spanish as a second or third language, or are challenged to learn academic Spanish. I appreciate your consideration and generosity as you read this project.

My Project

This business center for the Spanish classroom will provide the space and materials students will need to practice a variety of office skills for future careers. Additionally, these materials will help brighten -literally and figuratively- our classroom. This will create a more inviting learning and work environment. With the office chair and office materials, students will practice transferable skills in a variety of role-play settings. Through these materials, students will take ownership of their academic goals as well as their future careers, without pushing them in any specific direction but allowing them to discover their passion.
