My Students

Our school is located in the Bronx, NY and services students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. My students live throughout the borough and are bused to attend our school that is part of New York City's District 75, which provides specialized instruction and support for students with significant challenges. My students range from grades K-5 and are part of the D75 inclusion program.

Although my students may face several difficulties and challenges academically and/or socially, they continue to flourish in a mainstream classroom despite their disability.

My students succeed best when they are provided with a well managed and structured environment, that’s full of love and support for their individual needs. When provided with a well rounded education including visual, auditory and tactile opportunities, my students will continue to grow and achieve success.

My Project

Technology can open a whole new world of learning for kids. I currently have access to one computer in my classroom that I share with my students. I do wish that I was able to expose my students to more technology throughout the day. The Fire tablets would help me to differentiate my instruction for my students based on their individual needs and goals.

A 21st century skill that I would love to expose my students to is coding.

There are many math concepts that can be learned through coding as well as critical thinking, problem solving and sequencing skills. Although my students may only be in elementary school, they are on track to receive a high school diploma like their non-disabled peers. It's never too early to expose them to skills that will be valuable in today's job market.

These Fire tablets will also help develop my students reading fluency and comprehension skills. I have subscriptions to many reading websites and would love to make individual accounts so that my students can read and interact with texts on their independent reading levels.
