Help me give my students exciting after school activities that they want to be apart of. When I started coaching on the Northside of Houston our team had exactly three softballs to share. Please consider growing our program!

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Houston Strong! This phrase describes our students here on the Northside of Houston. Our school is defined as a Title One school, that is home to nearly 1,500 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade minority students, out of which 15% percent are homeless. Our students will find nearly any excuse to hang around school before and after hours, once realizing this and what might fuel this behavior I set out to start up several after school activities.

Our students are kind and respectful, considerate and driven, but also disadvantaged and overlooked.

My goal is to give these kids a safe place to be for as long as I can, keeping them out of trouble. Please consider helping us so that we can set these kids up for an awesome future and break the cycle.

My Project

When I started coaching here on the Northside of Houston we had three softballs to share for the whole team of nearly 30 girls aged 11-14, I had to be very creative those frist practices. With the demographic of our school, most of the girls on our team also could not afford to purchase softballs, mitts, bats, cleats, helmets, and the other items needed to play.

So, I invested, buying items ranging from uniforms, balls, helmets, and so on.

I would like to continue build interests in athletics, and positive after school activities.

Help me grow our program and our students in ways they would otherwise not have the opportunity to.
