Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our little gardeners consist of highly motivated middle schoolers who are eager to be outside and get their hands dirty. The children want to see things grow. They also want a garden-style yard where they can enjoy colorful flowers, sit and relax with friends, and simply be surrounded by nature.

It's time for our urban children to also have an opportunity to manage and take pride in having a garden.

My Project

Creating an adequate school garden will benefit middle schoolers in three different schools. We have a large space that we want to convert into a garden. We envision an area with lots of colorful flowers, and another with herbs. Our goal is for students to learn how food grows, the science behind soil, composting, and all organisms that make it all happen. We plan to integrate bird feeders and bird houses to attract local birds and teach kids about our native species. Please help us achieve this vision. Our school is located in the Bronx. Many of our kids don't have access to a garden and therefore they need to be exposed to nature and all of its biodiversity.
