Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are creative individuals who are eager to share their artistic talents with our school community. This year, I'm starting a "Student Art Curators" leadership opportunity where students will take ownership of selecting, arranging, and presenting artwork throughout our school. To make this successful, we need bulletin board materials that will transform our hallway and art room walls into a gallery space where student work can be displayed with the the care and planning that it deserves.

This project will bring the gallery experience directly to them, allowing them to both appreciate art and develop curatorial skills right in their own school environment.

Goal 1: Develop Student Leadership and Professional Skills.

The Student Art Curators will empower selected students to develop real-world skills. These student curators will learn to:

- Write labels and project statements

- Make thoughtful decisions about artwork arrangement and thematic groupings

- Consider audience engagement and visual flow

- Speak knowledgeably about displayed works during school events

Goal 2: Elevate Student Artwork to Create a Culture of Artistic Appreciation

Our second goal is to transform how artwork is perceived in our school community. By creating quality displays, we will:

- Demonstrate to all students that their artistic expressions are valued

- Encourage meaningful discussions about artwork throughout the school

- Create opportunities for cross-curricular connections between art and other subjects

- Build school pride through beautiful, student-curated spaces

- Foster greater appreciation for diverse artistic styles and cultural backgrounds.

The bulletin paper rolls, borders, tape and post it notes and chart paper will help make our displays attractive and interactive. We will use the sticky notes to have students conduct a gallery walk and respond to the displays by posting a note next to the artworks on display.
