My Project

Creating models allows students to make abstract ideas concrete and understandable. In our interdisciplinary unit on endangered species, students will be studying the question of how human activities contribute to the exploitation of and conservation of endangered species. Students will do a deep dive into food webs, energy pyramids, and ecosystems. The unit transitions into a civic action project, where they will explore organizations and people who are working toward the conservation of endangered species and their ecosystems. The unit will culminate in students creating models of zoo exhibits for endangered species with sustainable ecosystems.

The endangered species animal figurines will enable my students to imagine ways they can take civic action to help in the conservation of endangered species by allowing them to create models of sustainable ecosystems with the animals of their choice, without any concern over incurring expenses for their families.

This gives them the freedom to choose an animal of their personal interest as they explore the concepts of this unit.
