Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Second grade is such a critical year for many students. There is always a wide range of levels and abilities in my classroom. I have students that are still working on fluency skills, as well as students who are already reading chapter books!

My students all contribute different talents and skills to the classroom and learn from one another every day.

They all know that no matter where they are in the learning process we focus on helping each other move forward, instead of slowing each other down.

Second grade is where we start to shift the purpose of language arts from learning to read, to reading to learn. That is a huge step! Every day, we build relationships, encourage each other to follow directions, and learn to interact with each other in a kind way.

My Project

We would love to have magnetic building tiles in our classroom to have more STEM learning experiences! These will primarily be used during math stations, with strategically planned groups of students. We will also use them for team building activities. Students will need to work together to build items, sometimes with certain specifications, and other times, completely creative!

Students learn and grow tremendously when they use critical thinking skills and creativity to accomplish a goal.

There will be moments when students are building that they may get frustrated or need to think more creatively to build the object assigned to them. These will be wonderful learning experiences for the students. When educational experiences are hands on and tangible, they remain in a student's mind and stay with them for years to come.
