Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am getting ready to start a new vision for my classroom. One thing that I’m lacking in is group work, collaboration, and mathematical discourse. I have found ways to do them and will use the whiteboards to group my kids and help engage them in that much-needed math talk. Each group will have to work together to engage in learning. I will use the whiteboards so that they can record their thinking as we engage in the math workshop models, and I will have stations with different activities. I know kids do the best learning when they are standing and working amongst their peers. I also ordered the teacher podium so that I could walk around and collect data on student progress as the year progressed. My students also need more discipline in staying organized during their math block, so I am asking for pencil boxes, which will be assigned to each of them, along with lead pencils. The lead pencils help minimize classroom disruptions with the pencil sharpening. The more my students are organized, the less instructional time is wasted. I also added a teacher chair for my warmup area; we have a section on the carpet to ignite student thinking before we comencé out math workshop models. The current chair I have is old and being held together by tape. These supplies will help develop a more mainstream math engagement and learning flow. The more responsible and organized we make our kids, the more successful they will be in engaging with the real world.
