My Project

I am a new Algebra teacher in a Title I public high school hoping to receive essential items for my students. We are located in downtown Manhattan but our students come from all boroughs, mainly from the Bronx and Queens. I am hoping to improve student mental health through my classroom environment. We will also be using a new pedagogical method called "Building Thinking Classrooms," which requires we use whiteboards every day to show thinking vertically. The items I have listed will help in supporting this new way of active learning for all levels of students because we will be going through a ton of expo markers. We will also be needing items such as whiteboard cleaner and Clorox to make sure our surfaces stay clean after using the boards everyday and touching the different materials everyday. In addition, we will need to use colorful paper to print out the different activity stations for better organization of the days different tasks. I will also be using a point system that rewards students for their good demonstration of group work and I would like to have stickers and hard candies to show appreciation for their hard work (it also acts as a helpful motivator to be a successful group member). Other items listed include helpful reminders for the room environment for students to feel safe and supported in their classroom. Please help me give these students the tools they need to be successful in a thinking classroom!
