My second-grade students are smart and amazing, and they deserve the best math education that I can provide. So, using Peter Liljedahl's book "Building Thinking Classrooms" as inspiration to transform my classroom, and standing whiteboards as a platform for students to share their learning, I will reshape my math instruction to become a more active learning opportunity for all of my students.
The students will work together in random groups using whiteboards to solve deep-thinking problems which will allow them to use the concepts and skills we are learning and to interact with each other in a positive way.
By providing a more active learning environment - one where learners are up and moving around - open to explore their own learning within a group, all learners will benefit from the activity. Through the use of standing whiteboards, learners will be more active - both physically and mentally.
