This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am currently teaching at a school that was displaced for two years due to flooding in Louisiana. This was very difficult for the students because not only did they lose their safe learning environment, but many lost their homes as well. My students have so much potential, and I strive to provide them with everything they need in order to succeed! Through my experience, teaching is much easier and the students show more growth when necessary materials are available for use in our classroom. Unfortunately, I cannot always provide the necessary materials.
My Project
By the time my students leave me at the end of the school year they are required to be fluent in several areas including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. It is a struggle when I receive students that lack a basic understanding of math. It can be very difficult to teach students to multiply and divide when they are still struggling with adding and subtracting.
I am trying to bridge the gap that is visibly apparent in my third graders' knowledge by teaching them basic math concepts.
In order to get them to become fluent in adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing they need to have a better foundation. I plan on incorporating this ETA hand2mind Fluency Kit into my daily math instruction in hopes that the students develop an understanding and foundation that they can build upon once they leave my classroom.
