My Project

Three year olds are naturally sensory learners and love to feel and touch different textures. One of the sensory items they love the most in our classroom is the sand table. They have the opportunity to feel the texture of the sand while they search for letters and numbers, or while their dinosaurs stomp across the earth. With the play sand we currently have, students are unable to build anything because the sand does not stick together.

With this kinetic sand, students will be able to use the molds and their fine motor skills to build various things to better support their thinking and play.

Students will be able to fulfill their sensory need while learning and playing. They will be able to use the sand during our building unit to see how many different ways they can build a structure and use their early engineer skills to discover how to build bigger and taller sandcastles. During our ball unit, students will be able to use the ball molds to build spheres which they will be able to weigh and measure.

An added bounce to this sand is it's density and ability to be molded. All three year olds are working on building and refining their fine motor skills, but for students who have low muscle tone in their fingers and hands, this sand is a fantastic way for them to build those muscles. They are able to manipulate the sand and build their strength in a fun and exiting why without even knowing they are doing it.
