This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Students deserve a quality education, but what good is a quality education when our students' basic needs are not being met? In order for our students to excel in class, not only do their basic needs (food and shelter) need to be met, but also their emotional and psychological needs such as their sense of belonging, their ability to make and have friends, their ability to regulate big emotions (sad, mad, scared, anxiety, etc.) and their ability to overcome adverse experiences. I work at a school where my students are economically disadvantaged and resources are scarce. Due to limited access to resources or lack of awareness to supports available, students often end up with the wrong friends in efforts of obtaining a sense of belonging and some times rely on substances to cope with their emotions.

By donating to our project, not only will you help our students learn feelings identification but help teach them about coping skills through fun and interactive ways.

A Little Spot will help students learn about the array of emotions we have and how they are not all complex. Once my kids learn how to identify their emotions, the fun begins!....teaching students how to cope with such emotions! This is where sensory items like calming stickers can one not only help teach about self regulating strategies, but also gives my students a tangible coping skill. Coping skills are not a one shoe fits all, so through the utilization of the other supplies including notebooks for journaling and coloring books, students will be provided with the resources to discover what self regulating activities work best for them.
