My Students

We love building with blocks! We love learning how to read music! It's time to combine these two awesome learning experiences into one memorable music lesson.

My students are in grades kindergarten through 2nd grade and attend a primary academy located in a high needs area on the south side of our city.

My wonderful students get to school by train or by bus, and nothing can keep them from learning. Our school has a population of 600 students with 99% receiving free or reduced price lunch.

My Project

My students need 3 different sets of building blocks to use as a tactile aid as we explore building rhythms in music class! With these materials, the students will be able to practice reading rhythms and building rhythms in a hands-on, fun, memorable way. Each block will be labeled with musical symbols. The blocks will then be used to literally "build music." These little musicians have a blast in music class and have shown natural talent for learning the language of music. These building materials will help them have yet another unique opportunity to continue to grow as musicians.

Studies have shown repeatedly that reading and performing music literally helps our brains build new connections.

I am excited to use these building block to build my students' brains! These blocks will be used by all 600 of my music loving students and will offer a fun way for us to reinforce our music reading skills.
