Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are a small public charter school in San Bernardino, California. Our students are excited to learn new things and love having individualized attention. They come from all different backgrounds and have different living situations.

Our whole school works really hard to help keep students engaged and parents informed about what is going on at school.

I work with students who are struggling with different things or who might need a little extra attention individually, in small groups, an in virtual classroom SEL lessons.

Many of these kids have not learned basic social skills or have challenges that make it harder for them to develop these relational skills. Many of them have not had a healthy example of how to cope with emotions, and some need some help developing these skills and having someone work with them so they can be successful both in school and at home.

These students are resilient and incredible, and they deserve every opportunity to be successful in academics and life.

My Project

These items will help students' social emotional growth. Journals will be used for recognizing emotions, expressing grief, and practicing mindfulness and a growth mindset. The Grief Bubble, The Mindfulness Journal, Happy Mindset Journal and resources from Teachers Pay Teachers will help with journal prompts and guidance in journaling.

Motivational stickers will be used to decorate journals and give students positive affirmations to look at throughout their day to keep them positive even when things are rough.

These are items that can be with them at home or at their desk when back on on campus.

These things are important because students will have to utilize coping skills independently while back on campus because of COVID restrictions. They will not be able to seek out individualized support as they are used to, so the need for these tools is essential. The journals, stickers, writing prompts and worry stones will help them deal with anxieties, stress, and grief.
