Building Resilience: Social, Emotional, and Mental Support for 4th Graders

My Project

My students love to explore problems and solutions through role-playing with LEGOs. This is especially useful for students whose social and emotional development were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. At Strawberry Park Elementary, our 65 fourth-grade students across three classrooms exhibit a notable need for enhanced social skills and emotional resilience. To address this, we propose incorporating LEGOs and crafting materials into our curriculum to facilitate role-playing activities, allowing students to creatively explore and resolve social challenges collaboratively. This hands-on approach will develop their social skills, boost emotional resilience, and promote creativity. By documenting their role-playing experiences in journals, students will extend their learning through reflective and creative writing. These activities will help students rebuild the social skills that were underdeveloped due to isolation during the pandemic, fostering a supportive, inclusive community and ensuring high engagement and meaningful outcomes.
