My Project

I am an elementary school English Language Arts and Reading teacher. I get to spend each day teaching fourth and fifth-grade readers in one of the best rural schools in Oklahoma! My students are a diverse group with varied levels of learning. Our classroom is a space where students enjoy coming to learn. We are a Title I school and we focus on creating memorable learning experiences for every child.

These students have huge hearts and love to learn in non-traditional ways including room transformations, arts-integrated lessons, and project-based learning.

Let me tell you about my students! They have curiosity, creativity, compassion, and positive attitudes. They are truly amazing people. My school is wonderfully supportive of the active hands-on learning that we do in our classroom. I couldn't ask for a better learning environment for these students. We are truly a community!

COVID-19 impacted learning over the past two years so much that our students are behind on basic reading skills that they need to be successful in the future. Having to miss school due to quarantine or closures really made it difficult to have continuity in learning!

The resources I am requesting will directly help my students advance their academic learning after these past two years of COVID-19 struggles. We need reading comprehension kits, including those that focus on Following Directions, Reading for Details, Making Inferences, Text Structure, and Finding Themes in passages. We also need pencils, and a few learning games to help keep the students engaged. Informational Text Games, Reading Comprehension Bingo games, and the Readers Theater Scripts will be fun and help in needed areas where they are struggling. We have also added one holiday classroom decoration, hairbrushes to have available for students, and a box of trash bags to use in our classroom.
