My Students

Imagine a life without the bare necessities; food, clothing, permanent shelter and attention.

I teach second grade in a high-poverty, Title-1, urban elementary school.

Ninety-nine percent of students receive free lunch. Though eager to learn, many students are faced with personal obstacles which stem from their socioeconomic environments.

Despite their challenges, they come to school daily for education, but mostly for a sense of purpose and unconditional love and acceptance. You might say they are, "Diamonds in the rough!" Pressured, yet passionate and priceless!

My Project

Being a teacher in the 21st century means our students need to learn skills on the computer to prepare them for technology incorporated into the curriculum as they go into higher grades.

With these laptops, students will build their reading and math skills throughout the day.

During reading stations, students will be able to go on iReady, a differentiated website to build their fluency, phonics skills, and more, in an engaging way. At math stations, student will be able use sites such as Reflex Math to build their fluency with addition, subtraction, and fact families.

This year I want to try incorporating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) into the classroom. Having these Chromebooks would allow students to research and interact with websites (such as code.orf).

The speaker would be used throughout the day during our whole group lessons and to play music while students complete their assignments.
