My Project

I hope to bring nature to the forefront of students and pique their interest in the environment. By helping to build plant terrariums and learning how to take care of them, students will feel a sense of accomplishment while learning about the foundation of gardening and balance of natural elements to keep plants healthy and thriving.

The items I requested for include terrariums, plants, soil mixture, light timer and decorative elements.

I will personally supply additional items (diverse plants, light fixture, gravel, mesh, gardening tools). Students will have an opportunity to learn about the materials necessary to build a simple plant terrarium, review and choose the items to build each terrarium with, and take turns managing the terrariums.

My goals for this project are three-fold. The first goal is for students to take an interest in the natural part of the environment they live in. The second goal is for students to learn how to care long-term for something that they have created from scratch. They will need to read and watch videos on terrarium creation and management. The third is for students to work successfully together and build their social-emotional skillset.

The students in my school are eager, curious, and not afraid to try something new. They have a lot of energy which need to be channeled into positive activities that will guide their lifelong learning. They love visiting the library to relax, read and play games. In fact, they treat the library like their home away from home. The students told me that they love lounging there and feel safe to be their true selves. This project will also make the library even more homey for our wonderful scholars.
