My Students

When you walk into my classroom, you will see artists, readers, thinkers, dancers, architects, mathematicians, friends, and experts. These 2nd graders have been together since 1st grade and work to challenge one another and make each other better day after day.

Each student in my class has strengths, which are used daily to make a learning environment we all want to be a part of.

The mission in our classroom is "Work hard. Be kind." Our students work hard by asking questions, focusing on their work, challenging one another, and encouraging their friends. They are kind to their friends and work as a team. We work hard to take our mission out of the classroom and share the gifts we have learned to others.

My Project

When students arrive to school in the morning they are eager to get started. Imaginations are flowing and they are ready to work with others. Manipulating materials to build something they plan out will motivate them as teammates and strategic learners.

The materials supplied through this project will provide morning tubs for students to creatively problem solve and use abstract thinking from the very beginning of the day.

Students will be placed into STEM teams and will use a tub for one week. They will build, plan, and test their structures throughout the week before moving onto another tub full of new materials.

The items in this project will be the items used in their morning tubs. K'Nex and Tinkertoys will be used for students to creatively build. We will use these to take literature another step. The K'Nex will become bridges that students plan on their own, they will become new homes for the Three Little Pigs, they will be used to build traps for leprechauns, and anything else students brainstorm together. The KEVA planks and Q-BA-MAZE materials will be used for students to build mazes and move a marble through the maze they developed together. The puzzle will help students problem solve and work together as a team. Students will also have dominoes to help them with literacy skills while also strategically playing with peers.

The imagination of our 2nd graders will be strengthened and students' creativity will come alive from the very beginning of the day with the materials provided in this project.
