About My Students

My students represent a group of individuals with varied abilities and a variety of learning needs. During our summer school program, my student, Joshua decided to write a grant that would allow us to build computers together in the classroom. Joshua has come a long way during the past year that I have worked with him in terms of his social skills as well as his confidence in his ability to contribute academically. I am excited to present his grant to you and look forward to sharing our results!

This project is aimed at giving students the opportunity to collaborate on building computers that we will use during the remainder of the school year in technology class. Using a lot of teamwork and applied technical training, students will learn to build a computer from scratch. They will identify and assess all of the key components that are used to construct a computer and determine the optimal components for each build. These are skills that will continue to be utilized throughout their education in relation to both collaborative project development and technical planning and problem-solving.

In Their Own Words

During the school year, I want to build computers with my teacher and classmates. It would be really cool for my class to learn how to build a computer and we can use that knowledge in the future! We can make a computer that can use all of the apps that we use in class.

I will build the computer to show the school how cool it is to create a computer. My friends and teacher agree that it would be really cool to build the computer from parts and I would help to keep them organized while we are learning how to use them.

This project is important because it would be really enjoyable for me and the whole school. I am writing this grant because I think that my classmates would learn a lot and it is really helpful for them to learn computer skills. Also, we can build different kinds of computers to use in different ways.
