Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My Pre-K students love coming to school to learn and play with their friends. They think our classroom is perfect. They don't see that if we had a few extra materials, we would be able to do so many more things.

They are happy with what we have, but I want to give them more.

We are the only Pre-K class at our school, and my students are a great bunch of kids. They are just starting out, and they are so excited to come to school every day.

As their teacher, I try to maintain that excitement so that they will always love coming to school. Most of them come from very low-income homes and have never been in school before entering my class.

My Project

My students love to play in the block center. However, the toys we have are so old and many of them are missing legs. We really need a few new sets of animals. We have been learning about animals and their habitats recently, so I know they would really like to play with some new animal toys. Being able to see what the animal looks like really helps my students, especially the ones who are learning English.

I also want them to get some engineering experience while they play.

The building tiles will help teach them basic engineering skills and hopefully be a foundation for further exploration.

Other materials in this project will also serve this purpose such as the clip and create builders and Playstix. I want my students to have a firm grasp on the mathematical and science skills they will need for the future. These materials will help them build these skills in an organic way.
