My Students

I teach in an Urban charter school where my students come into the building with varying needs, academic levels, SES, etc.

I teach students with special needs in grades 2-5. These students have varying disabilities and ability levels and my goal is to build upon these ability levels to create independent, creative, smart citizens.

My Project

The group of students that I work with all have difficulties with learning math the traditional way that most students learn. Because of this, I am constantly using different methods of learning with my students and almost all of the things we do include manipulatives and hands on materials to make abstract concepts more concrete for the students. Legos are one such way that I can do that. By gaining these legos, baseplates, figures and storage bins, I will be able to reach my students through hands on, STEM activities. The students can build fractions, different models to show multiplication arrays and place value, act out word problems, along with MANY different activities.

Your donations to my classroom and this proposal in particular will help me continue to create a STEM focused classroom where we learn through doing, creating and solving problems.
