This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

S.T.E.A.M.-based education helps to provide our students with the tools and skills to be successful in many careers. As an educator in a Title I school, it is of high importance that I help to create access to this type of education for my students who are often marginalized or left out from this type of enrichment. I would like to enhance my math classroom by incorporating Math instruction through both literacy and games.

Typically, girls and children of color, underperform in the area of mathematics.

I want to help bridge the gap by finding ways in which my students can connect to Math, see themselves as Mathematicians, and develop and love and feeling of confidence for the subject. Being able to see people who look like them highlighted in the books that they read--people who have become professionals in the area of Math or even children who overcome challenges as Math students--can be an impactful way to garner interest in the area of Math. Working and playing collaboratively with their peers with different Math games can also help them develop an enthusiasm for the subject! I want my students to love Math just as much as their teacher does!
