Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of highly active K1 Sheltered English Instruction (SEI) students. These students love circle time where they sing and interact with musical finger-play and build school community. They enjoy learning each others name and playing with hand-on manipulatives.

My students are awesome risk takers, explorers and mess makers!

You can hear them singing, talking, and being real, as they explore books, structures and water works with confidence. These four and five year olds however, are most interesting and exciting about the friends they make, embrace and treasure.

With the pandemic and everything else that's going on my students will have the energy to persevere.

My Project

Hands on manipulatives allow early learners to develop fine motor skills, build number sense, and solve basic addition and subtraction problems. As students play with these hands-on materials they will count with one -to -one correspondence, match numerals to symbols and use ten frame to create and solve mathematical equations.

Supporting my students with this manipulative project will enable them to excel in counting with understanding, number identification and adding and subtracting numbers with sum less than 6.

Providing these tools will help my students to understand the order of numbers, the value of number symbols 1-10 and identify numbers by name during distance learning.
