My Students

As a teacher in a Title I school district, my students are faced with challenges in their everyday lives. I have noticed that coming to school for some of my students has provided them a sense of belonging and they receive the attention they need.

My students are caring, thoughtful students that provide one another the encouragement and support we sometimes need.

My students enjoy seeing one another succeed. Their love for reading is heartwarming and their drive to learn makes my job that much more rewarding.

Based on some of my students' socioeconomic status, it is hard for them to always have the resources they need to learn at their best ability. I sometimes wish there was more I could do for my students, but I only have so much control on how I can impact their lives. I am hoping to have an impact on my students, that will help my special education students succeed just as well as their general education peers.

My Project

It is important to have a diverse classroom library to meet all learners' needs. Many books that we do have are worn and dated. Our school has recently initiated a school wide reading challenge were students and staff challenge one another to read their favorite books. When students asked me for specific book titles, such as Rick Riordan books or Auggie and Me to continue their curiosity of the book Wonder, I was saddened to know I didn't have those books to provide my students.

High Interest books build high interest in reading.

It will bring so much joy to my classroom to be able to provide my students with books that they are excited to read and eager to share with their peers. Thank you for considering my project.
