This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Help us be 21st Century learners. We cannot listen to stories, watch videos or work on our podcasting or video projects without headphones!
My students attend a charter school in Pennsylvania.
They come from inner city neighborhoods and many do not have access to computers at home. The charter of the school is technology with a brand new technology program to infuse technology across the curriculum.
My Project
My students need headphones for the computer lab so they can listen to stories, practice reading, watch videos, and complete multimedia projects. My younger students will be listening to stories, practicing letter sounds and reading books into Audacity to practice their fluency. Older students will be creating multimedia projects that are aligned with academic standards. These include podcasts, videos, and other digital projects that will provide students with hands on problem-solving skills for the 21st Century along with higher-order thinking skills based around academic content.
In order to be successful as adults in the 21st Century, my students need to have the technological skills to complete long term projects individually and collaboratively.
In addition, it has been scientifically proven that students' phonics skills are improved through listening to letter sounds and stories.
