My Project

Post covid, so many of our students have either lost out on the chance to build relationships with their peers OR maybe even lost out on learning skills necessary to improve social interaction and build community. I am constantly reminded that my middle school students are coming to me having missed out on key instructions in person in second and third grade. This is where they really begin to learn how to effectively work together and the importance of teamwork. So many of my students have so much leadership potential that is untapped simply because they weren't able to develop it at a younger age. This year I am piloting a leadership skills class in order to help students recognize their potential and build community with each other and with their school as a whole. This project will provide different team building games and curriculum to build community in my classroom. I am also excited about the opportunity my students will have to be mentors to our elementary students and the different age appropriate books on character will allow my students to actually teach and present these character skills to the younger students as mentors!
